Successful Completion of the Naft Khana 2D & 3D Seismic Survey Project
– Another Milestone in China-Iraq Energy Cooperation

Naft Khana Seismic Camp, Iraq – May 1, 2025
— On the occasion of International Labor Day, a grand ceremony was held at the project site to celebrate the successful completion of the Naft Khana Block 2D & 3D seismic survey. Over 200 attendees, including Iraq's Deputy Minister of Oil Mr. Basim, Director General of the Oil Exploration Company (OEC) Mr. Osama, Director General of the Midland Oil Company (MdOC) Mr. Mohammed, Chairman of the NK Joint Management Committee Mr. Ameer, the Intercontinental Oil and Gas NK Project Manager, representatives of the Iraqi military, and staff from both Chinese and Iraqi enterprises, gathered to mark this important milestone.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Basim commended the efficient, high-quality completion of over 700 square kilometers of 3D seismic acquisition and 710 kilometers of 2D seismic lines in the Naft Khana Block. He highlighted the project as a testament to Intercontinental Oil and Gas's technical excellence in oil and gas exploration, noting that this marks a critical step forward in unlocking the block's hydrocarbon potential. “This achievement sets a new benchmark for future international cooperation,” he emphasized.

The NK Project Manager of Intercontinental Oil and Gas remarked, “The Naft Khana seismic project marks our first major operation in the Iraqi market. Despite complex conditions and technical challenges, the project's success would not have been possible without the strong support of our Iraqi partners.” He extended sincere thanks to the Ministry of Oil, OEC, the local military, and all supporting departments. He also pledged that the company would expedite data processing and geological interpretation to provide a scientific basis for resource evaluation and development planning, continuing to contribute to the high-quality growth of Iraq's oil and gas sector.

As one of Iraq's key oil and gas blocks, Naft Khana has attracted significant attention. The presence and speech of the Deputy Minister underscore Iraq's strong confidence in the block's potential and its recognition of the NK project team's technical capabilities. The successful implementation of the project not only strengthens the bond of China-Iraq energy cooperation but also promises to align Iraq's production growth objectives with China's energy security strategy.
